—Weisz Steiner, Chapter 62 |
Weisz Steiner (ワイズ・シュタイナー Waizu Shutainā?) is an Adventurer and a member of the crew of Edens Zero[2], as well as their mechanical engineer.[3] He is also a former thief from the Planet Norma and the younger version of Professor Weisz from the year X442.[4] He later uses the alias "Arsenal", when doning an armored suit.
Appearance[]
Weisz is a tall young adult with a slim build, dark eyes and short blond hair. He has a few bangs brushed to his right and a single earring is worn on his left ear. His initial outfit consists of a long-sleeved, light-blue coat with an open high collar and dark-colored shoulder pads over a black turtleneck.[5] Underneath is a short-sleeved white shirt with black sleeves, sports a pair of dark trousers, and plain, white boots.
Weisz later changes into a mid-sleeved jumpsuit with a chest plate and shoulder pads connected and a held by a leather belt with a pocket on the left. During the rescue mission on Guilst, he is shown to have possession of an assault rifle.[6] After the mission, he starts to wear a light-colored hooded jacket with a black undershirt, a pair of long, dark-colored jeans and shoes.
When entering Digitalis, Weisz's avatar is a curvaceous woman with long, light-colored hair and a dark skin tone.[7] He later switches this avatar for one of himself in a light-colored hooded jacket with black flame-like designs on the end of the sleeves, a pair of knee-length light-colored shorts, and open-toed sandals.[8]
During the Mildian arc, Weisz changes into an outfit similar to a mafia don: A long-sleeved fur coat over a fancy suit with a tie, black dress pants, and leopard-print shoes. He also wears a pair of dark sunglasses.[9]
After his battle with the Zaiten Three's Baku, Weisz later changes into a dark-colored shirt, a pair of light-colored jeans and shoes. His hair is now in a messy style.[10]
During the Belial Gore arc, Weisz wears a new attire similar to his original. It consists of a long-sleeved, high collared white jacket with black designs on the upper torso and shoulders and sleeves that ends at the elbows. Underneath is a long-sleeved, dark-colored turtleneck with white zigzag designs on the bottoms and white lines on the collar's sides. He also sports a pair of light-colored trousers held by two belts, a holster on his right leg, and lastly, black shoes.[11]
Personality[]
Unlike his future self, Weisz is a selfish and stubborn person who only cared for himself, acted as if he didn't truly care about the others around him. As a thief, he would steal items he deemed worthy of value. However, it is shown that Weisz does care about his friends and he shows concern for others in his own way such as partially fixing Happy after he was damaged, showing concern for Rebecca when she was kidnapped, saving Sister while she was being held captive, and displaying suspicion of Homura when she showed knowledge of the Edens Zero.
Weisz takes pride in his handsome looks as he was shocked and dismayed when Rebecca showed him the picture of his older counterpart from 50 years later.[12]
As Arsenal, Weisz tends to act heroic and bombastic with flashy speeches, insisting to his crewmates that he is being in-character of his superhero persona.
It is shown that Weisz does have a perverted side such as when he checked out Homura's rear, planned to put Homura in a bunny girl costume when he filled his end of the bargain between them, showing interest when hearing Homura had one of Witch's massages and staring at Rebecca's chest.
The only thing he still shares with his alternate self is their love for their late mother, who was among the victims killed by Drakken Joe.
Synopsis[]
History[]
Weisz lived on the planet Norma with his mother. At some point, his mother fell gravely ill with a sickness that even the doctors couldn't reasonably explain. Despite Weisz's pleas, his mom did end up dying due to the sickness.[13]
Sometime after his mother's death, Weisz bought a used robot in order to get a friend. The robot knew lots of stuff and it even taught Weisz how to use the Machina Maker Ether Gear after three years of training. Unfortunately after learning the Ether Gear, he was not very good at using it and ended up breaking his robot teacher by accident.[14]
Many years later, Weisz ended up becoming a thief and found himself part of a gang of criminals lead by Sibir. Weisz and Sibir were good friends and Weisz even showed him the pendant his mother gave him.[15] However, the pendant was stolen and Weisz accused Sibir since he was the only one Weisz told about. After Sibir denied stealing it, Weisz claimed that the gang wasn't his crew, and he was kicked out of the gang. Weisz then promised Sibir that he would steal something he cared about.[16]
Shortly after the falling out, Weisz stole a case from Sibir that he believed was full of money.
Norma arc[]
Weisz first appears drawing a gun on Shiki, Rebecca, and Happy when they enter his home looking for The Professor. Then announcing that he is Weisz Steiner, confusing the group. [17] As he continues to question Shiki and co. on who they are, the young man accuses them of working for Sibir. Then after Shiki sees someone upstairs, Weisz quickly leaves on his motorbike.[18] Afterwards he is seen clutching a suitcase, stating he will never let Sibir have it.[19]
Rebecca and Shiki later find him at his favorite bar and explain that they are friends of his future self. Shiki then proceeds to steal his suitcase after learning Weisz is a thief. Shiki accidentally opens the suitcase revealing it contained an android, not money as Weisz thought.[20] Weisz then deduces that Sibir was planning on using Pino to make money and decides to follow her in order to steal the score.[21]
Weisz had continues to follow Pino until he is there to witness her return to Sibir and his new recruits, the Foote Brothers.[22] When Sibir threatens to break Pino's other leg, Weisz intervenes, claiming that since he stole her she belongs to him.[23] Then when Shiki breaks into the hideout, Weisz uses the confusion to steal Rebecca's vehicle, along with Pino and Happy and make his escape.[24]
He was later seen speeding down the street, pursued by Sibir in his mech Knight Gear.[25] When the bike he is riding is blown up, he tries to convince Pino to use her EMP before they were saved by Shiki.[26] While Shiki and Sibir battled, Weisz admitted that he was the one that created Sibir's Augmenter Arm.[27] After the battle he feigns shooting Sibir only to then destroy the Augmenter Arm while it is still attached to the gangster. [28] In the aftermath Weisz attempts to convince Shiki to reveal the outcome of major sports games in the future before the police arrived to arrest him. [29]
Later on, Weisz sneaks onto the Aqua Wing,[30] and offers to help the crew escape the police in exchange for ownership of the ship. When Rebecca agrees, he uses his Ether Gear Machina Maker to restructure the ship and escape the atmosphere, as well repair Pino's leg.[31] After Weisz pilots them through the spacetime wall they get a call from Professor Weisz who explains the Chronophage, its effects, and how it makes him and X442 Weisz different entities.[32] The Aqua Wing is then caught in a tractor beam.[33]
Skull Fairy arc[]
When Elsie Crimson reveals herself as the one who took captured their ship, Weisz comments on her good looks and she precedes to both compliment and insults his skills as a pilot. Then she announces her intentions to sell them into slavery at Guilst and Weisz tries to convince her to let him join her pirate crew like a mechanic. Thereon, Shiki announces his intentions to raid Elsie's ship and Weisz decides to tag along. Upon entering the ship Rebecca is tied up by alien tentacles, Weisz takes the time to ogle at her before being captured himself, and when she frees herself first she begins to strip him comically in retaliation.[34]
After finding Shiki and the defeated parasite copy of Elsie, Weisz is elated by the news that the real Elsie intends to give Shiki the ship. His and Shiki's minds were then blown when she revealed the full size of her fleet, which is then attacked by the Interstellar Union Army. Weisz pulls a lever to help them escape, which causes them to fast travel and he is amazed by the new technology of the future.[35]
Guilst arc[]
While traveling to Blue Garden the new crew decides to clean the parasites off the ship together and Weisz complains about the work despite not being asked to help. Later while they all show off the new outfits they found, Rebecca asks him about how to learn ether gear but he claims there is no point because it takes years and is annoyed when Shiki proclaims he learned it in a month. Then when Shiki accidentally awakens Witch, Weisz insults her ability to maintain the ship causing her to restore the entirety of the Edens Zero.[36] While exploring the ship he and Shiki come across CORD 3173 and Weisz attempts to open the door with Machina Maker but is unable to open it. Witch then announces the area is off-limits over the comms and Weisz argues with her over the eavesdropping that invades privacy, getting her to stop.[37]
When they finally land on Blue Garden, Weisz is amazed by the changes from his time and in excitement, leaves to go explore the future.[38] In the wake of Rebecca's kidnapping he suddenly appears on the Edens Zero alongside Homura. He proceeds to explain to Shiki that while wandering around the guild he saw the news report of the kidnappings plus Shiki's response but then overheard Homura mention the Edens Zero. He proceeded to question her and she claimed she wants to challenge the Demon King and will help them rescue Rebecca in exchange. So he brought her to the ship while adding another mystery condition. Pino then questions his intentions for returning and he offendedly proclaims he has to help Rebecca.[39]
Upon arriving on Guilst Pino thanks Weisz for repairing the damaged Happy. However, he claims that the current him must be a genius as he was only able to repair the external damage. Later while wandering the streets Weisz claims that the planet makes Norma's slums look good. Then when they find Rogue Out's base, Weisz refuses to enter without a plan and the others leave him behind. [40]
Digitalis arc[]
Mildian arc[]
Sun Jewel arc[]
At the ship, the crew is unable to get into contact with Rebecca. Weisz and Hermit finish their project, his personal armored exoskeleton, the Arsenal Suit Mark I. Sister gives him orders to bring everyone back in one piece.[41] Weisz arrives in time to stop Baku's axe from hitting Rebecca. He says that he is not Weisz and instead introduces himself as Arsenal, the weapon-clad steel warrior. He again says that he is Arsenal when Rebecca and Pino still call him Weisz.[42] Still adamant on being called Arsenal, Rebecca jokes with him on his hero persona and asking him to save them. Afterward, he faces Baku and names him Baron Von Lion. He starts his speech but is hit by Baku, making Weisz complain that it is against the rules. After hearing Baku is doing this by the order of Madame Kurenai, Weisz remembers his orders.[43]

Weisz defeats Baku
Weisz then punches Baku in the face and creates an arm cannon to shoot him. Baku dodges and Weisz makes another arm blaster to fire again. His opponent dodges and quickly gets behind him, which Weisz customizes his suit and does the same, remarking how confident Arsenal is in his speed too and kicks him. Weisz defends himself as Baku sends sonic waves at him, taking no damage, which he remark that his suit has Ether coating. Unfortunately, his suit's Ether has depleted and begins shutting down in 30 seconds. Having not calculated for this, he notes how his suit still needs improvements while being bombarded by Baku's attacks. With 10 seconds remaining, Weisz creates a giant right hand and finishes off Baku with Metallica Explosion. With no Ether Power left, the suit shuts down and comes off. Rebecca praises him, which Weisz tries to hide his identity again. He then asks where Shiki and Homura are, but Rebecca asks where his clothes are. He realizes this, trying to cover himself, and states that he did not expect his suit to be gone.[44]
He tries to cover himself, desperate enough that he asks to borrow Rebecca's skirt. He begs her but blushes as Rebecca realizes that she has no underwear. He uses Pino to cover himself, utterly embarrassed from being stared at by everyone. Eagle compliments him for beating Baku, but he asks where he can get new clothes. He is told that he can find some at the warehouse, along with weapons. He then asks Rebecca about Valkyrie.[45] In a stall, Weisz is told of Valkyrie's death, wondering how they are going to tell the others, especially Hermit who was looking forward to seeing her. He then remembers Homura and asks how she is doing, but Rebecca tells him they need to focus on their situation. He tries to get out of his stall but finds the door locked. Trying to get out, he asks Rebecca if someone came, banging on the door and asking what is happening out there.[46]
Belial Gore arc[]
World No. 29[]
World No. 30[]
Weisz and the others run through the halls searching for Labilia, but are soon encountered by Drakken's goons. He and Rebecca knock out the remaining members after Shiki takes most of them out. Afterward, they ask one of the goons on the location of the jail cells.[47] They later find Labilia in her cell, perfectly fine, confused since Rebecca said they tortured her. His attention changes to the call of an old Sibir.[48]
Edens One arc[]
After the defeat and arrest of Drakken Joe, Weisz reminisces with his mother's pendant returned to him in his room at Edens Zero about his talk with old Sibir at the bar about the fate of Belial Gore's inhabitants under Interstellar Union Army's investigation, telling him not to worry about it with Amira helping out. When Sibir showed him the pendant, Weisz believed he stole it all along but Sibir revealed that it was actually a gang member who was behind the theft. He tried to return the pendant to Weisz's older counterpart who lets him keep it as he sees it as a sign that he did not trust his former friend.[49]
Red Cave arc[]
After escaping the giant fish in the Poseidon Nero Sector, he and others view the Aoi Cosmos outside their windows, wondering how excited Shiki can be after their encounter. After Jinn ignores Shiki's question and confusing him as he thought he made friends with him, Weisz insults him about it.[50] They soon arrive at the Fire Planet Red Cave, but are confused by the sight of an ocean.[51]
When Shiki returns and shows what happened to his Aquatic Adaptation Lacrima, Weisz notes how it is still like his but changed. He listens as Nadia explains that the Mother Ether found a vessel and went inside of it on its own. That the treasure kept here was a part of Mother, saying that it is possible to find Mother as many other pieces like this can be found anywhere across the cosmos, called Relics. These work like a compass to find others, if they find enough and absorb their Ether it might lead them to Mother. Weisz complains about this, thinking they can just absorb all Ether in the temple, which Laguna corrects him that many people were here before and that it is probably not possible. He listens to Nadia again, who states that only by absorbing Mother Ether from other places will it change its properties. With this knowledge and something to lead them to Mother, Weisz remarks that it is time to go. Before they leave, he listens as Witch tells Nadia the truth of what happened to Andrew and is surprised to learn that the body they found from the ship was him. He watches with everyone the memory chip from the ship and learns what happened. He and the others follow after Nadia as runs off and breaks her cable to find Andrew, noting how she cannot survive without the cable.[52]
They find Nadia by the ship, where he reminds them that they need to reattach the cable as Witch tells Nadia that it is alright for a machine to love a human and that the android has a heart. After this, Weisz again reminds everyone about the cable, but Rebecca thinks Nadia is fine without it, recalling that Andrew brought the relic back in the memory chip. He watches as the relic, a candelabra, breaks out of the ship and shines a flash of light, restoring the robots of the planet. It continues to return to the planet to its rightful state, where he notcies the water levels receding, he and the others watch the sunrise. Later while onboard the ship, they watch as the bots and the octopus monster wave goodbye, making him and Shiki realize that the octopus was the temple's guardian.[53]

His hair becomes blue, and is slid back where several Ether lines go across his right eye. His upper legs and parts of his arms become darkened and gain light-colored Ether markings. His outfit inverts in color, where the dark-colored robes of his Arsenal Suit Mark 2 turn into a lighter color.[66]
- Overdrive-enhanced Machina Maker: Through Overdrive, Weisz's Ether Gear capabilities are augmented to the point where he can reconfigure the floor and launch multiple bullets at high speeds simultaneously.
Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Weisz has basic skills in hand-to-hand combat. When using the Arsenal Armor, his fighting skills are significantly augmented.
Genius Engineer: Even in the past, Weisz is shown to be a prodigious engineer, quickly able to understand most machinery he's come into contact with, which goes hand-in-hand with his Ether Gear ability.
Piloting Skills: Weisz is an excellent pilot, shown to be capable of flying the Aqua Wing past the nearly impenetrable spacetime wall around Norma with ease, which Elsie praises him for at the moment.
Expert Marksman: After training with Xenolith, Weisz's marksmanship has greatly improved.
Equipment[]
Aqua Wing (アクアウイング Akua Uingu): A spaceship formerly owned by Rebecca Bluegarden, given to Weisz in exchange for escaping Norma.[67] It resembles a fish and can surf on water, levitate and travel in space.[68][69]
Assault Rifle: During the rescue mission on Guilst, Weisz is shown carrying an assault rifle which he uses his Machina Maker on to modify into a flamethrower.[70]
Arsenal Suit (アーセナルスーツ Āsenaru Sūtsu): With Hermit's help, Weisz constructed a weapon that he can control through a bracelet.
