Afterword[]
“ | In this volume, Xiaomei got to be a part of the main story. I created her as a narrator, and she tells the tale from the omniscient narrator's perspective. She can talk about things the characters have no way of knowing, using meta-expressions. That means I have to be very careful about putting her in the main story. But because she "knows everything about the entire world," I actually managed to get her in there without too much trouble.
This character still has tons of backstory and character traits that have yet to be revealed. They may gradually come to light in the future. And now the other character we all have questions about has made his debut - Captain Connor. His look changed a lot since he was first conceptualized - at first, he was a thinner, more attractive old man, then I gave him a receding hairline, and then I gave him silky smooth hair; I just could not decide on a design for him. I didn't settle on the current design until after I storyboarded his appearance. It was after me editor told me, "It's not very interesting to have an old man doing all that stuff when he's good-looking." The female contingent on my team wasn't too happy about it - there were complaints of, "Why didn't you make him hot?!" But I like this design. And what in the world is the EDENS ONE he was talking about? Actually I haven't decided that myself! ...Just kidding. I do have it worked out to a degree, but there are still parts I haven't quite settled on. I've said it a thousand times, but I work out those final details when I do the storyboard, and that's how we get the final manuscript. Story elements like these affect the overall narrative, so I get cautious when I work on them. In the next volume, we'll finally get closer to the mystery of Valkyrie. And we'll finally start acting like a real battle manga! Hope you're looking forward to it! |
