| “ | The story has moved forward by about three years. I decided pretty early on that Shiki would become a young man, but when the time came, I hesitated. I thought about all sorts of things, like "What, would people who like the round, cute Shiki will think?" Of course, traces of him would remain when he grew up, so I designed the older Shiki with the idea of "Let's shift from cute to cool." I've never been good at drawing cool boys, but I want to make Shiki, who's matured both visually and on the inside, into a character that people will think is cool in terms of his actions.
The other characters don't have that much of a visual change, but this one is intentional. I wanted to Shiki to stand out. Speaking of characters with the biggest changes out of all of them, let's start with Hermit. I gave her a big change in hairstyle. This is because she resembled a certain Vocaloid. That wasn't my intention, but when I noticed the resemblance (laughs), I thought it'd be bad if I didn't change it, so I did. By the way, I once drew an official illustration of that Vocaloid. And how about, Jinn? His hair's grown out. This guy isn't drawn consistently, so I gave an amount of hair that's easy to draw. There are the other characters who've changed a little bit, but there are a lot of cases where other characters change for some reason or another. I answered this in some interviews, but the story has already entered its second half. I don't know how long it will go from here, but for a project this big, the time has come to start wrapping it up. For starters except this new story arc to end the story Ziggy and Shiki. There are still a lot of mysteries left, but the setup for Mother and the Chronophage are mind-blowing, so please look forward to them. Oh yeah, I've also thought about Ziggy's secret setup. I'd be happy if you were surprised, but some of you may think, "I knew it." But still, the setup is pretty complext, so I believe that there's at least one point that will surprise those who will say "I knew it." |
