“ | Given that this title is based in space, I thought, "I'm going to draw battles involving fighter jets and fleets in space!" However, when I actually started drawing these scenes, I understood very well why no weekly manga magazines have done this.
The costs involved with drawing these scenes are simply expensive, require many panels (T/L note: koma) to be dedicated to them, and reduce the panels where we can see the characters' faces. These are good reasons not to do this, haha. Although it may be possible to do this by being creative, it requires completely different drawing techniques from the human-to-human combat scenes that I am used to drawing since long ago. Setting the layout while making an effort to make the scenes cool but also easy to see and understand was fun because it took me back to the spirit I had when I started. I bolstered my staff long ago in anticipation of the space battles, but it feels as if I have too many staff members when we don't have any space battles. With that said, since my workplace has many tasks outside of drawing manga, we are still very busy. I am grateful for my staff. Speaking of tasks outside of manga, I make appearances on video platforms and events. I also draw illustrations that are commissioned by companies. I design characters for games. I supervise the games that I am involved with. OI supervise merchandise. I write the story for "100 Years Quest." There are also several projects I cannot announce that I am designing characters for. I feel embarrassed to say myself, but I am extremely busy. Since I have so much work, obviously my managers are also very busy. The other day, I finally reached the mark of 4 managers ("Magazine" writers usually have 1 or 2). To tell the truth, I thought this was "too many!" However, since they said it wouldn't be possible to manage all of the projects without 4 managers, I am working with 4 managers now. I would like to change the subject now. The Aoi Cosmos story is nearing its climax, and I am planning to include expressions and stories that I usually do not include in my works. I am concerned whether all of you will accept them. However, I see this as a necessity to make the "future" of the story more interesting, and the story will take a serious turn moving forward. I spoke about the future a bit with my managers, and their opinions were split, as I imagined. Since the development will be so serious, this is can be expected. Of course I am planning to be professional and draw manga that focuses on making the readers satisfied while making the readers satisfied while also adding story elements that I want to include, instead of forcing my way. Therefore, even though I want to make the story serious, there is still a good chance that things won't be so serious depending on how the meetings go. How will things turn out? Please look forward to future developments. |
