“ | Anime will save the universe... But... Can I save anyone? | ” |
—Nino, Chapter 66 |
Nino (ニノ Nino?) is an extremely popular B-Cuber and a member of the Zaiten Three, nicknamed Kenzaiten (拳罪天 Kenzaiten?, lit. "Fist Sin Deva"), the "Fist of Heaven".[1]
Appearance[]
Nino is a tall and lean man with pointy ears, a scruffy beard, and short black hair with a ponytail style. He wears a black shirt whose front has a magical anime girl of "Wibble Wobble Ruby Bobble" poster and knee-length white pants with a belt, and a pair of shoes. He has two dark arm wristbands.[2]
Personality[]
Despite serving Kurenai, and being an anime/manga otaku, Nino has a mature side with a moral compass, judging by his disapproval of Labilia’s cruel prank on Rebecca[3] and his dismay at Kurenai’s callous disregard for the Labor District’s population.[4]
Nino believes that anime will save the universe.[5] However, he admits that comparing to the anime and manga adaptations of certain series he watched and read, he considers the manga adaptations are way better than their anime counterparts.[6]
Synopsis[]
Sun Jewel arc[]
Nino appears singing the "Wibble Wobble Ruby Bobble" season two theme song while Labilia and Rebecca are preparing their B-Cube video, impressing the onlookers who recognized him.[2] Nino decides not to interfere and watches from the sidelines. He watches in admiration, but when Labilia pulls her malicious stunt on Rebecca to humiliate her at the end of the video he is shocked and then watches in disapproval. After Labillia runs off laughing, he quietly hands a note to Rebecca. It tells her not to speak because Madame Kurenai is listening around them, and to follow him because he knows the way to the Labor District.[7]
Nino, Rebecca, Happy, and Pino make their way to the Labor District. When asked how he knows the way, he reveals that he works for Madame Kurenai under the alias "Kenzaiten". He also revealed that he was told to capture Rebecca after she mentioned the Edens Zero on their audio surveillance.[8] But he decided to help her instead after seeing her Wibble Wobble Ruby Bobble Cosplay. After opening the way to the Labor District, he tells Rebecca to get off the planet when she finds her friends and departs, declaring that anime will save the universe.[9]
Nino, along with the rest of the Zaiten Three, appears before Madame Kurenai, seeing her with a man who applied to be her attendant, now as a pet. He comments how disgusting it is and listens as she informs them that she has heard that Valkyrie's followers are plotting another uprising and plans to use the Oculus Kurenai to burn the Labor District to ashes.[10] As Ward prepares to lock on the entire Labor District, Nino is horrified and reminds Kurenai that there are tens of thousand of people there. After being told that they worship Valkyrie and this being the price for their rebellion, he notes how Valkyrie saved her from the district, but Garrot tells him to follow orders. He listens as Kurenai mocks the robot he speaks of before Shiki crashes in the building.[11]
Shortly after, Shiki breaks into the building. Nino watches from the side as Shiki fights the Punishers, Baku, Garrot, and Kurenai, then he is shocked when the Oculus Kurenai was hacked by Drakken Joe. Nino is ordered to squelch the uprising in the Labor District. At first, he states he would rather not, but reluctantly goes after Kurenai forces him to.[12]
Nino enters the Labor Districts and locks the entrance to the armory and interior doors, trapping Weisz in the changing rooms.[13] Nino confronts Rebecca and the two are surprised to see each other. When Rebecca asked what he is doing, he says he is locking the armory to stop the fighting. When criticized, he reminds Rebecca that he works for Kurenai. The two argue for a bit but Nino says he'll let her go if she lays low.[14] When Rebecca draws her gun at him in disagreement, Nino summons his own weapons, four solid Ether arms from behind his back called Soul Arm, and prepares to fight her.[1]
Nino promises to knock Rebecca out in one punch and throws punches at Rebecca with his Ether arms. Rebecca dodges and fires back at him, but he uses his Ether arms to block the shots.[15] He throws an arm at Rebecca, who has spaced out and manages to land a hit on her. Shortly after, Rebecca awakens her Ether Gear and turns back time a few seconds. This time, she jumps back on her own and Nino fails to hit her.[16] Nino is surprised at her newfound speed, but when Rebecca quotes an episode of Wibble-Wobble Ruby Bobble, claiming that he can save people too, he is left starstruck and gets hit by Rebecca's Bellholy Slash.[17] Nino notices Rebecca used the attack name from the manga as opposed to the anime and remarks that he preferred the manga better before passing out.[18]
Later, Nino returns to Kurenai's Tower where he knocks out Ward and wonders to himself if he can save anyone as he shuts down all of the Punishers.[19]
